My Story

My journey into literacy began with a pivot. While earning my Master’s in Teaching, I took a class on early childhood literacy that did not explicitly teach me how to teach students to read. That left me feeling ill-equipped. And it convinced me to shift my focus to upper grades. I believed my job would be to teach content to students who already knew how to read.

That theory was shattered in my first fifth-grade classroom. Faced with students struggling to decode text, I encountered the widespread impact of instructional methods not grounded in the science of reading.

Years later, as a mother, I found myself intuitively teaching my own children to read early. When I returned to education, the traditional classroom no longer fit. I turned to tutoring, which led me to specialize in dyslexia.

The diagnosis was personal. Despite my training, I didn’t recognize the signs in my own daughter until later—a poignant reminder that dyslexia’s hallmark is often in spelling, not just reading. Guiding her from early struggles to her current success as a high-achieving high school senior has been my most profound education.

Now, I partner with students, parents, and educators. We move beyond waiting for the system to adapt, using evidence-based practices to build literacy skills and confidence. My mission is to equip learners facing challenges with the tools they need to thrive.
