Ms. Jane also incorporates Structured Word Inquiry to help students learn about "non-phonetic sight-word" spellings. *Clients do not need a formal assessment or diagnosis to receive my help! Adults can learn to read better, too! |

How long does the Barton Reading & Spelling System take to complete?
This is a common question asked of tutors, and there is no simple answer. Factors that affect how long it takes to complete the program, including but not limited to the following:
- Consistency of attendance (a minimum of two sessions per week is required to make gains).
- Support from caregivers/guardians/parents, adhering to the program parameters
- Not allowing other interventions at the same time will confuse the student.
- The type of dyslexia, the severity of the dyslexia, and the management of comorbid issues like ADHD.
- Unmanaged ADHD will significantly slow the progress.
It is impossible to determine how long each student will take to complete the program. In discussions with colleagues, Ms. Jane has heard of students who complete it in two years, and others who take five. The above-listed factors greatly influence program completion. The best way to describe the program is "It is a marathon, not a race." And we like to say, "We go as fast as we can, but as slow as we need to."
