Choosing a Qualified Dyslexia Tutor

Jane Gramenz (“Ms. Jane”), founder and Practice Leader of Ms. Jane’s Tutoring & Dyslexia Services, is a state-certified teacher with an M.A. in Teaching, is Master’s Certified in the Barton Reading & Spelling System, and has more than 16 years of Structured Literacy tutoring experience. Any Tutor affiliated with the practice is carefully selected based on training, instructional experience, professional judgment, and the ability to meet Company standards.
For students working directly with Jane Gramenz, Barton Reading & Spelling System instruction is delivered online through Koala Go, an interactive virtual classroom.

What to Expect From Tutoring

Structured Literacy instruction is explicit, systematic, cumulative, and individualized. Each learner receives carefully sequenced instruction based on current skills, instructional needs, and rate of progress. Sessions focus on strengthening decoding, spelling, fluency, and reading comprehension.

​Online sessions are typically 50 minutes and are held at consistent weekly appointment times. Regular attendance and the recommended session frequency are important because each lesson builds on previously mastered skills.

How Long Does Structured Literacy Intervention Take?

This is one of the most common questions about Structured Literacy intervention. Because every learner begins with a different combination of strengths and instructional needs, there is no single timeline for completing intervention.
Progress may be influenced by:
  • The student's starting point and individual learning profile
  • The type and severity of the reading or spelling difficulties
  • Consistent attendance and session frequency; two 50-minute sessions per week are the minimum
  • Support from caregivers in maintaining program expectations
  • Opportunities to reinforce learning between sessions
  • Avoiding simultaneous reading interventions that use conflicting approaches
  • Support for co-occurring needs, such as ADHD
Some learners may complete a Structured Literacy sequence in approximately three years, while others need more time. Instruction progresses according to demonstrated mastery rather than a predetermined deadline.
